The Brenner was, as the lowest Alpine crossing, always the main axis point of goods traffic. Most types of commercial activity profited from the merchants passing through. The trading route across the Brenner also permanently changed the agriculture in the region. Only in recent years has the requirement for regionally rooted products within short distances, from their own cultivation and with the focus on quality increased.
